All Along the Watchtower is a 6 minute pentatonic extravaganza. We're going to learn everything from theory, note choice, tone, gear and everything in between! All Along the Watchtower
A song as iconic as the musicians that performed it, All Along the Watchtower features some of the most recognisable guitar work in the history of contemporary music. The piece was originally written by Bob Dylan in 1966, and then later reimagined by Hendrix in 1968. Jimi doused the song with his enigmatic fretboard wizardry which we have all come to know and love. As guitar players we all strive to achieve the fluidity that Jimi could conjure, and that is precisely what this course was designed for.
My version of All Along the Watchtower contains a more modern rock aura, influenced by John Mayers Live in Los Angeles version. The driving drum beat, busy bass line and punching rhythm guitars provide a canvas of pentatonic freedom which you will learn to traverse. By the end of the course you will have an understanding of the inner workings of All Along the Watchtower, and how to freely improvise over the track by understanding my thought processes when crafting a guitar solo.
